Matthew Hayden – 380 (Australia vs Zimbabwe, 2003, Test Match)        

Australia’s explosive opener Matthew Hayden smashed 380 runs against Zimbabwe at the WACA in Perth in October 2003. This record briefly held the world record until Brian Lara broke it.Hayden’s innings epitomised his aggressive batting—he hit 38 fours and 11 sixes in 437 balls. It is one of the most memorable innings in Australian cricket history. 

Brian Lara – 375 (West Indies vs England, 1994, Test Match)

Brian Lara’s name appears twice on the list, a testament to his greatness. In 1994, Lara set a then-world record by scoring 375 runs against England. He reached this score off 538 balls and hit 45 fours in his innings. This innings was the turning point of his career, earning him the moniker “The Prince of Port of Spain.

Mahela Jayaswardene – 374 (Sri Lanka vs South Africa, 2006,  Test Match)

Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene scored 374 against South Africa at Colombo in July 2006. He shared a 624-run partnership with Sangakkara, which remains the highest partnership in Test cricket to date. This innings of Jawardene is counted among the most iconic innings in Sri Lankan cricket history.

Gary Sobers – 365 (West Indies vs Pakistan, 1958, Test Match)*

 West Indies legend Sir Gary Sobers made history by scoring 365 against Pakistan in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1958.When he was 21 years old. Then he batted continuously for more than 13 hours and hit 38 fours, a record that stood for 36 years. This innings, which Sobers achieved in his prime and made him a superstar in West Indies cricket. 

Leonard Hutton – 364 (England vs Australia, 1938, Test Match)

England opener Len Hutton set a new record by scoring 364 runs against Australia in the Oval in 1938. This innings remains the highest score by an English batsman in Test history. Hutton’s innings led England to a massive 579-run victory and established him as a “classical batsman.”

Hanif Mohammad – 337 (Pakistan vs West Indies, 1958, Test Match)

Pakistan’s first great batsman, Hanif Mohammad, scored 337 runs against the West Indies in Bridgetown, 1958. This innings came when Pakistan was facing the follow-on, and he helped the match to a draw. His innings is considered one of the greatest “rearguard” innings in Test history, as he batted for 970 minutes.

Rohit Sharma – 264 runs (India vs Sri Lanka, ODI  2014, Test Match)

Indian opener Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI cricket. He scored 264 runs against Sri Lanka in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in 2014. The historic innings came from 173 balls and included 33 fours and 8 sixes. With this innings, Rohit redefined ODI cricket—he is the only player to have scored three double centuries.

Martin Guptill –  237 runs (New Zealand vs West Indies, World Cup 2015)*

Martin Guptill stunned world cricket with his 237* runs in the 2015 World Cup quarterfinals. It remains the highest-scoring innings in World Cup history. He smashed 24 fours and 33 sixes in 163 balls to lead New Zealand to the semifinals.  

Virender Sehwag – 219 runs (India vs West Indies, ODI 2011)

 India’s explosive batsman Virender Sehwag created history by scoring 219 runs against the West Indies in Indore, 2011. He became the second batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to score a double century in ODIs. Sehwag’s innings was completely aggressive—25 fours and 7 sixes in 149 balls. This innings is considered one of the most explosive innings in Indian cricket history.
